The Contractor shall join a pool of locum physicians that provide their availability to provide Locum Physician Services for the Rural Medicine Locum Program, Calgary Zone. Please note: there is no guarantee of work and the need for locum coverage varies as work is based on requests from rural family physicians. Family physicians can request up to 2 weeks of coverage per year for vacation, sick and education relief. The locum provides coverage for the family physician for their family clinic and if applicable may include Acute Care/Inpatients, Long term care, Emergency room shifts and potentially Labour and Delivery (where applicable).Insert Program and/or Site Name and/or brief description of services
The Rural Medicine Locum Program, Calgary Zone will assign the Contractor (based on locum’s availability) as a locum physician to take the place of a community family physician within a site. Sites are described as the rural communities of the Calgary Zone (including the community family physician clinics or hospitals/care centre located within that community) Claresholm, Vulcan, Strathmore, Chestermere, High River, Okotoks, Airdrie, Didsbury, Crossfield, Carstairs, Beiseker, Canmore, Cochrane, Bragg Creek, Black Diamond and Banff.
The successful candidate will apply for membership with the Calgary Zone Department of Rural Medicine-Section of RMLP and is required to maintain an AHS Medical Staff appointment.
Note: The RMLP is a separate program from the AMA Locum Program.

Qualifications:CPSA and CMPA (current) required
Current ACLS required
ATLS, PALS, NRP preferred
Obstetrical experience an asset
Locum must have availability to go to any and all communities
Successful candidate required to have recently attended an AMA Billing Seminar applicable to rural communities
The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
Must read, write and speak English.

Compensation:Locum will receive a guaranteed daily stipend at a rate of $1000.00/day for full days and $500.00 for half days (4.5 hours) paid following the end of each locum assignment. A Guaranteed Income will not be paid to the locum for days where they are only seeing inpatients.
All Fee For Service Billings and WCB claims will be submitted to the Department of Rural Medicine and processed by a Billing Company that is selected through the Department of Rural Medicine.
If billings exceeds the guaranteed daily stipend, the remaining dollars will go to the locum following deduction of overhead and administrative cost.
Any travel &/ accommodation expenses are the responsibility of the requesting family physician to coordinate with the locum.

The Practitioner is responsible for purchasing health and insurance benefits.
Continuing Medical Education reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible Practitioner receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for three years.
