Position Summary:

Low Vision Optometrist  is primarily responsible to  perform functional Low Vision Assessments which include education regarding vision related topics; training in the use of low vision devices; and instruction on how to maximize residual vision for  patients with visual impairments not fully treatable by medical, surgical or  convention eyewear or contact lenses.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Optometry, Ophthalmology, or a university-trained professional with special knowledge of low vision and optical devices.
  • Completed an advanced course and Certified in Low Vision Therapist (CLVT).
  • Valid license from country of origin. 
  • Minimum of two (2) years providing training  in the use of low vision devices, functional Low Vision Assessments, or instruction on how to maximize residual vision for  patients with visual impairment.
  • Specialized Knowledge:
    • Principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients with low vision. 
    • Functional vision examinations. 
    • Prescription of low vision optical devices. 
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office productivity applications specifically Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word .
    • Fluency in oral and written English language
