An opportunity has become available for a Medical Director (Haematology) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 9000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to over 550,000 people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region.

About the role

  • Lead the tertiary clinical haematology service for the Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service (GCHHS) with a view to optimising patient outcomes and experience as well as the clinical governance processes, education and research.
  • Lead and manage the provision of medical services in accordance with standards of the specialty and the ethics of the profession in hospital, community and outreach settings.
  • Work collaboratively across all departments within GCHHS, particularly with Queensland Pathology, Oncology and the division of Diagnostic and Sub-specialty Services as a member of the clinical team.
  • Provide specialist expertise and advice for patients of all departments, in conjunction with the relevant surgical/medical specialists and the broader interdisciplinary team.

Requirements for the role

  • It is a condition of employment in this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), pertussis (whooping cough), hepatitis B.
  • MBBS or equivalent registrable with the Medical Board of Australia and registrable as a Haematology Specialist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia or equivalent.
  • Relevant qualification/s and registration must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
  • The incumbent will be required to participate in an on call roster to provide an after-hours consultative haematology service and supervision of other laboratories (such as Robina and Logan) as required.

  • Estimated total remuneration up to $401,700 p.a., comprising:
    • Senior Staff Specialist - Base salary from - $204,543 - $216,865 p.a
    • Staff Specialist - Base salary from - $171,044 - $198,678 p.a
    • Up to 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
