Job Purpose:


Work with the Regional Management and Country AMLCOs to ensure that there is an effective Governance, Risk assessment and Control environment in place for Citi AML APAC. Driving high quality standards for processes and controls and demonstrate them to business partners.            


Job Context:


AML mitigates money laundering for Citi and its customers in the global marketplace. It uses skilled analysts, state-of-the-art technology and globally standard policies and procedures to ensure effective detection, monitoring and reporting of suspicious activities. The role requires coverage of Governance, Risk & Control across 17 APAC countries, EMEA consumer countries and Regional Transaction Monitoring Hub based out of Kuala Lumpur including four satellite hubs. This role will include managing 10+ Risk and Control professionals across Malaysia, Hongkong and Philippines providing complete coverage on Governance, Risk and Control for Citi AML APAC.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Central point of contact for the APAC region to provide support for Country, Regional AML teams and Transaction monitoring hub in managing local, regional and US regulatory examinations, internal audits and compliance assurance reviews. This includes engagement on draft issues; centrally managing and tracking audit requests; managing internal/external communications and escalations; liaising with IA and other stakeholders on specific issues
  • Tracking and reporting of AML Corrective Action Plans (CAPs), CAP validations and providing regular management information and metrics, ensuring CAPs at risk are escalated appropriately and timely
  • Performing Global Applicability Analysis for issues identified within the region and across globally to self-identify gaps and raise appropriate corrective actions, wherever required
  • Managing Risk Programs across APAC Citi AML covering Continuity of business, Data privacy, Records Management, Cross Border Data Clearances, third party supplier management, by providing subject matter expertise and engaging with stakeholders regionally and globally in execution of risk programs
  • Proactive Risk identification, engagement with stakeholders on proposed mitigation and tracking the open risks identified through measurable and executable Corrective Action Plans
  • Managing Manager Control Assessment framework to ensure risks and mitigating controls are adequately captured, testing is performed on quarterly basis, providing credible challenge and consolidation of results to arrive at Entity level unit rating
  • Responsible for secretariat function for APAC AML Governance & Business Risk Committee, which comprises of senior business and risk management leaders and responsible for the coordination of the bi-monthly meeting; proposing and preparing an agenda and deck focused on significant AML issues and events; briefing the regional AML head and GBRC chairperson; rolling out minutes; tracking of action items; and any other activities related to convening of the GBRC
  • Oversight and governance for Country GBRC’s including conducting quality assurance of country documentation
  • Collating, preparing and reporting routinely and on an adhoc basis management information reports, metrics, KPIs and presentation decks to/for regional and global stakeholders/teams with regard to GBRC
  • Responsible to build a strong culture of compliance and maintenance of risk program and reporting
  • Support Global Risk and Control team on all control related initiatives and other activities to ensure compliance with Citi policies and regulatory requirements
  • The role will also entail contributing to the strategic direction of the program and department and will work very closely with other regional, country and global AML teams to further develop the program and look for opportunities for improvement and simplification in a high pressure and dynamic environment





Knowledge/Experience (Required):

  • 10 + years’ experience preferred in the financial services industry, preferably gained from AML, Compliance, Legal or Internal Audit, Operations roles
  • 5 years of management experience
  • Understanding or risk management principles
  • Awareness of AML regulation and banking products is preferred
  • Good understanding of Business / Operations and Risk and Control function
  • Experienced in engaging with auditors and regulators
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills


  • Banking and finance experience, preferably gained from working in an Operational capacity and/or Compliance, Internal Audit or in-house Legal, Finance role
  • Strong influencing and partnering skills
  • Strong capability to identify, weigh and mitigate operational and project risk
  • Leadership with the ability to see the big picture without losing attention to detail
  • Experience and ease interfacing with Seniors Management
  • Relationship management skills with the ability to handle conflict and negotiations
  • Strategic planning and project management skills
