Responsibilities/Duties:

The Division of Neurosurgery, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta, is accepting applications for the position of an Academic Gamma Knife Neurosurgeon.

The Neurosurgery Program at the University of Alberta is committed to the improvement of health through excellence in patient care, leadership in education and research, and in preventative initiatives directed at the promotion of neurological well-being. The Division of Neurosurgery in Edmonton provides comprehensive neurosurgical services for a wide geographic area serving a population of well over one million people. Every subspecialty is represented and several subspecialties, like neuro-oncology, neuro-vascular interventional and Gamma Knife. The recent opening a 3T intraoperative MRI unit offers state of the art patient care.

The Division is recruiting an academic Gamma Knife neurosurgeon at the Assistant Professor rank to commence July, 2018. The position includes a 70% commitment to clinical practice which includes participation in a general neurosurgery on call program and a 10% commitment to non-classroom teaching. A teaching (classroom) commitment of 10% will be demonstrated through participation in the mentoring of medical students and residents, as well as a 20% commitment to research.

Qualifications:

Applicants must hold an MD or equivalent, with completed training in Neurosurgery, and eligible for licensure in the Province of Alberta. The successful candidate must have obtained the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Fellowship in Neurosurgery, with advanced experience in neuro-oncology and Gamma Knife. Preference will be given to applicants who hold a Masters’ Degree or PhD designation with a recognized fellowship in neuro-oncology and Gamma Knife. A background in basic science research relevant to neurosurgery is also preferred with experience in mentoring graduate students in Masters’ and PhD programs an asset.

Compensation:

The position will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and includes a comprehensive benefits program and competitive salary through the Alberta Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP).
