Responsibilities/Duties:

The Department of Clinical Neurosciences (http://www.ucalgary.ca/dcns/), in partnership with, the Hotchkiss Brain Institute (HBI, http://www.hbi.ucalgary.ca/), in the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, invite applications for a full-time Tenure Track position, at the Assistant Professor level, to develop a vigorous, independent, research programs in Multiple Sclerosis Neurology. The successful candidate will be a member of the Division of Neurology.

The Department is seeking to recruit either a clinician scientist with a focus on basic translational research in Multiple Sclerosis or a clinical researcher with a focus on an area related to pathophysiology, biomarkers or therapies for Multiple Sclerosis.

Qualifications:

Qualifications include an MD, specialist certification in Neurology, a clinical MS Fellowship, eligibility for medical licensure in the Province of Alberta, translational research training, and demonstrated commitment to research in areas related to pathogenesis and disease mechanisms in multiple sclerosis. The ability to establish an independent research program as demonstrated by a portfolio of scholarly work is also required. At the Assistant Professor level, this will entail the publication of at least 30 peer reviewed papers, with the majority as 1st or senior author and success in obtaining competitive funding for either salary support or research projects.

Excellent facilities for clinical and basic neuroscience, health outcomes research and state-of-the-art clinical and research infrastructure, provide an environment conducive to leading-edge research. The Multiple Sclerosis Program in Calgary provides care to the 1.8 million residents of Southern Alberta and is involved in funded research. HBI and the Cumming School of Medicine and Department of Clinical Neurosciences will provide attractive start-up support, laboratory space, and analytics facilities to equip the recruited candidate for success.

While duties include providing clinical service in the Section of Neurology with clinical teaching, substantial time will be protected for research. Salary support will be through the Department of Clinical Neurosciences, Division of Neurology, Alberta Medical Health Services Plan, supported by Alberta Health, Alberta Health Services and the Cumming School of Medicine.

The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.

Compensation:

Salary support will be through the Department of Clinical Neurosciences, Division of Neurology, Alberta Medical Health Services Plan, supported by Alberta Health, Alberta Health Services and the Cumming School of Medicine. Remuneration is expected to be $340,000.00 – $400,000.00 range per annum.

Specialist on call payments are expected to be in the $6,000.00 - $8,000.00 range per annum.

The successful candidate will be a member of the University of Calgary Medical Group which provides billing services, transcription, academic clerical support, and offers opportunities for other academic opportunities including sabbaticals and travel grants.
