Responsibilities/Duties:

CancerControl Alberta in conjunction with the University of Calgary, are seeking a 1.0 FTE Medical Oncologist to start immediately at the Jack Ady Cancer Centre (JACC) in Lethbridge, Alberta.

The successful applicant will become a member of a multidisciplinary cancer program located at the Jack Ady Cancer Centre (JACC) site in Lethbridge, Alberta, and will join a team of medical staff, Nurse Practitioners and medical support staff working in the South Zone.

The JACC in Lethbridge is one of four Regional Cancer Centres within CancerControl Alberta’s Community Oncology portfolio. Serving Southern Alberta and Southeastern British Columbia and Southwestern Saskatchewan, the centre delivers a wide range of state of the art treatment and care to cancer patients. Cancer care practice at the JACC is centered around 7 major tumor groups with rarer tumors managed in conjunction with consultation and expertise from the tertiary centers in Calgary and Edmonton.

The JACC operates within a provincial framework for cancer care supported by provincial clinical guidelines and standards, focused on patient centered care. Medical Oncologists are expected to participate in local and provincial tumor team based activities including clinical case reviews at tumor board rounds, annual, provincial tumor team meetings, local quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives and educational programs and are supported by a network of Medical Oncologists province wide.

Medical Oncology practice at the Jack Ady Cancer Centre is disease site oriented. The successful candidates focus would be the care of patients affected by the more common malignancies, including lung, GI, GU and Breast cancers.

The successful applicant will be expected to deliver excellent patient care and must be eligible for licensure in Alberta and must have obtained Fellowship in Medical Oncology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada by the time of appointment.

Lethbridge is a city in the province of Alberta, Canada, and the largest city in southern Alberta. It is Alberta's fourth-largest city by population of 100,000 after Calgary, Edmonton and Red Deer, and the third-largest by land area after Calgary and Edmonton. The nearby Canadian Rockies contribute to the city's warm summers, mild winters, and windy climate. Lethbridge lies southeast of Calgary on the Oldman River.


Lethbridge is also the commercial, financial, transportation and industrial centre of southern Alberta. The city's economy developed from drift mining for coal in the late 19th century and agriculture in the early 20th century. Half of the workforce is employed in the health, education, retail and hospitality sectors, and the top five employers are government-based. The only university in Alberta south of Calgary is in Lethbridge, and two of the three colleges in southern Alberta have campuses in the city. Cultural venues in the city include performing art theatres, museums and sports centres.

Qualifications:

Qualifications include an MD, certification in Internal Medicine, special competency in Medical Oncology (or equivalent), and eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta.

The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.

Must read, write and speak English.

Compensation:

The Remuneration will be calculated in accordance with the Cancer Control Alberta Physician compensation grid for Medical Ocologists. $314,781.00 - $453,117.00 per annum dependant on qualifications and experience.

The Practitioner is responsible for purchasing health and insurance benefits.

Continuing Medical Education reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible Practitioner receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for three years.
