An exciting and rare opportunity within the established and innovative Chemotherapy Nursing Team has arrived! If you are a Registered Nurse, with 12 months experience, and an enthusiastic interest in Cancer treatments, this is the post to launch an exciting new career for you.

We are looking for Registered Nurse's to join our dynamic team. This rotational post will provide an excellent grounding for any Registered Nurse with a genuine interest in cancer and its treatments, and could lead to a rewarding future in Cancer Care. The post has to offer:

  • Full competency training in Chemotherapy Delivery
  • Rotation between the out-patient Chemotherapy Unit, and the innovative mobile Chemotherapy Unit.
  • Regular education sessions and clinical supervision
  • Being part of a forward thinking, dynamic and friendly team

Following the exciting, recent launch of the Mobile Chemotherapy Unit (MCU), from Summer 2017, the role involves working in satellite areas, such as Selby, Malton, Scarborough and Bridlington to bring cancer treatments locally to the patient.

With a base and training at York Oncology/Haematology Outpatients, there will be an opportunity to experience training in an area providing full elite care to those affected by cancer and it's treatments.

Key duties of the role are the assessment, planning and delivery of the highest quality holistic care to patients receiving systemic anti-cancer treatments. You will be expected to work closely with the multidisciplinary team, in order to provide the best experience possible for our patients. You will be able to demonstrate good clinical practice, with the ability to display empathy, compassion, and a willingness to learn and develop new skills.

The capability to work flexibly is essential. The out-patient department currently operates on a Monday to Friday, 8.30 - 6.30 shift pattern, over 3-4 rostered days. 

With the development and expansion of treatments, weekend work may be a part of the future role of the Chemotherapy Nurse. Shift patterns when on rotation to the MCU, will differ to that of the out-patient setting, and there may also on occasion be cross-site cover to Scarborough Chemotherapy Outpatients, if the need arises. 

An enthusiasm and passion to work with the patient receiving cancer treatments, is essential. Clinical skills such as peripheral cannulation, and experience with administration of I.V. chemotherapy is desirable, however, full in house training and preceptorship will be provided. The successful candidate must be enthusiastic, with a willingness to learn and develop. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written must be demonstrated, in order to work compassionately and empathetically in this sensitive and highly emotive area.

You will be able to demonstrate the ability to be flexible, reliable and be able to prioritise and manage your own work load in an unpredictable clinical area. You will have the passion and drive to be an active part of a service, which provides an exceptional patient experience to all service users.
