The role 

This role is responsible for ensuring contemporary financial management/accounting processes are utilised to enable the effective delivery of the Division's services. This role reports to the Senior Director and is responsible for ensuring that the Division meets all departmental and statutory financial management requirements through the cost allocation and governance of all discretionary spending. 

The role leads a team of 4 with professional leadership to business services offices in the branches and requires strong leadership capability and leadership in general across the branch.  The role will, at times, step up for the Senior Director. 

Key accountabilities:

  • Work with the Executive Leadership Team to provide program management, operational support and coordination for the Prevention Division financial management function.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of all policies and processes/procedures relating to financial management and contract management in the Prevention Division.
  • Lead the preparation the Division's Annual Funding Plan, Financial Statement and other required departmental reporting requirements.

The successful person

The successful person will understand the mechanics of government and the compliance, governance and regulatory requirements associated with finance.  High level stakeholder engagement as well as effective time management are both fundamental requirements of this role.    Procurement experience will also be essential in this role due to the associated governance across the department and state government. 

  • High level problem solving and issue management skills and capacity to analyse and integrate information from diverse sources. Shows judgement, intelligence and common sense, with demonstrated ability to weigh up complex information and identify critical factors and issues.
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills (both oral and written), including demonstrated ability to consult, negotiate and influence staff at all levels and provide authoritative advice to senior management on a range of complex organisational issues, and the ability to prepare complex submissions, briefings and reports.
