We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join this team in the role of Sales Team Leader, Retail Business Banking (RBB).

Principal Responsibilities

The jobholder is responsible in managing customers and acquiring new customers with annual turnover between USD 3million - USD 5million typically start-ups, professionals, service providers or small scale manufacturers with simple product needs. Providing dedicated relationship management with accountability for sales, service, risk and operational delivery is also part of the responsibilities. Credit risk assessment is a fundamental element of the role. BRMs complete a needs based analysis of all their clients to provide solutions to them.


  • Take a hands-on approach to achieving the Group strategy and business objectives for mass business banking

  • Ensure effective team management to deliver all aspects of the RBB’s operating plan

  • Through intelligent activity management, implement a regular program to reduce the number of low value accounts via low activity/dormant account management exercise.

  • Support RBB BRMs directly with complex existing and new to bank customers

  • Maintaining an effective credit and operational risk management framework in the retail business banking segment.

  • Keeping up-to-date on knowledge of HSBC’s strategy, capabilities and policies.

  • Keeping abreast of external factors influencing international business e.g. economic, cultural, geographical, procedural and regulatory requirements.

  • Building strong relationships with internal stakeholders.

  • Working with product providers (such as Business Management, HTS, FIN, CMB) to implement a joined up approach to achieving

  • Responsible for driving best practice in lending and risk policies ensuring this remains in line with economic and market practices.

  • Take personal ownership of the customer experience, and ensure all team members take personal responsibility for managing their customers’ total relationship with HSBC.

  • By considering fairness in all aspects of strategy, product design & delivery, sales processes, customer literature & correspondence, financial promotions, administration and complaint handling.

  • Lead, motivate and inspire the team to achieve the Group strategy and business objectives

  • Establish cultural and behavioural excellence and develop high engagement across the team

  • Be ultimately responsible for the performance management of your team, using relevant performance management tools, ensuring timely action is taken to improve underperformance, to maximise effectiveness of the team.

  • Appropriate approach to risk management.

  • Minimise operational losses and fraud.

  • Risk controls to be in accordance with Group standards.

  • Respond within agreed timelines to issues raised by audit and external regulators.

  • Protect sensitive customer and bank information by ensuring documents, computers, files, and all confidential matters are appropriately handled as set forth by policy.





  • At least 10 years banking experience, with 3 years working in an RM role

  • Qualification to a University Degree or/and relevant professional qualifications.

  • Ability to drive team and individual performance across the balanced scorecard, delivering customer and financial targets (as appropriate).

  • Leadership, performance management and team development skills

  • Strong analytical ability

  • Commercial acumen

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with a particular emphasis upon inspiring, influencing and negotiating in dealing with customers and colleagues.

  • Ability to effectively plan and organise, with tenacity to drive through results.

  • Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal

  • Ability to interact with all levels of stakeholders

  • Strong knowledge of CMB’s operational model

  • Knowledge of the regulatory requirements of the bank and understanding of likely future changes

  • Knowledge of the Commercial Banking market both globally and specifically relating to the local environment, including the competitive landscape
