Key Objectives for Head of Canadian Fixed Income:


The Head of Canadian Fixed income is responsible for actively driving the evolution and implementation of the Fixed Income process across all Fixed Income portfolios. This individual provides innovative research in capital markets, prepares written reports with primary responsibility for formulating the house views on Canadian Fixed Income and the Canadian dollar. They also support all distribution channels in marketing, as well as servicing existing clients. 


Principle Accountabilities: 

  • Lead the process to formulate Fixed Income strategies including: setting duration and credit targets and maintaining approved security lists with a key responsibility for credit sector and security positioning in all Fixed Income portfolios. 
  • Optimize Fixed Income processes by working with the Fixed Income team to continuously improve and refine duration, credit, macro-economic and security analysis.
  • Adopt the Global Platform and Template for credit research
  • Lead portfolio strategy implementation, optimizing trade execution and portfolio construction across all Fixed Income portfolios.  Manage risk effectively including adherence to all account restrictions.
  • Managing Canadian fixed income funds and ensuring consistent performance over three year rolling periods, which outperforms appropriate benchmarks and peer groups.
  • Assist distribution channels with business development, client servicing and reporting. Maintain current knowledge of developments in the market (new products etc.)
  • Understand and ensure compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business.
  • Lead and develop an effective team through communication, performance management, development plans and reward/recognition practices.  Cultivate an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand.
  • Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.




Knowledge & experience / Qualifications:

  • Must hold a CFA designation and be eligible for registration with the Securities Commission.
  • Ten plus years of industry experience with a solid understanding of Fixed Income products.
  • Must have a proven performance track record of managing a Fixed Income portfolio.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across other groups, global regions, and business lines.
  • Highly organized, goal oriented and hands-on approach.
  • Comfortable interacting with a variety of audiences both within HSBC and externally with consultants and clients.
