  • Act as a Sanctions Subject Matter Expert responsible for overseeing the ICG/GCB business in the India cluster, reporting directly into ICRM Chief Sanctions Compliance Head for India Cluster
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to provide advice with respect to applicability of sanctions policies and implementation of the economic Sanctions program and regulatory changes
  • Monitor adherence to Citi’s Global Sanctions Policy and Sanctions procedures and requirements. Remain up to date on key Sanctions regulatory changes, key enforcement actions and related industry trends
  • Collaborate with functional partners, as applicable, to ensure potential risks are appropriately vetted and addressed. Identifies, and escalates to Senior Management and the Chief Sanctions Officer, material risks and significant instances of not adherence to the Framework by accountable front line units
  • Oversee adherence to procedures and processes, to ensure compliance with policies ensuring that front line units meet required standards
  • Promote consistency of Global Sanctions ICRM practices and policies – within the line of business for India cluster
  • Interact with Management to raise awareness of Sanctions trends, emerging issues, remedial actions or enhancements to the program
  • Assesses the impact of issues/violations (legal/regulatory, policy, reputational, etc.) and dimensions control process gaps to help management define disciplinary and corrective actions, as appropriate
  • Participate in and manage, as appropriate, various internal assurance processes, e.g. EWORA, self-assessment, internal audit or compliance testing review. Supports efforts in connection Internal Audit and functional regulators in Program exams and evaluations; tracks and challenges remedial actions from the front line units
  • Draft and edit Sanctions-related reference materials; participate in Sanctions training programs
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned 
Specific Responsibilities:
  • Act as the escalation point representing Sanctions program regionally in relation to all projects, escalations, issues and policy changes relating to, or having an impact on, businesses in the India Cluster
  • Provide a mechanism for identifying key Sanctions risks, and determine how the mitigation of those risks will be monitored and measured through a robust control framework. Ensure that reviews are conducted consistently across businesses on a regular basis to ensure that the controls identified are operating effectively
  • Policy interpretations for Sanctions are consistent and adapted/exemptions are given providing the mitigating controls in place meet the programs risk appetite. Demonstrate the ability to change internal Sanctions procedures, or Operations Business procedures to ensure Sanctions policy is being complied with
  • Advise and execute on processes designed to address new Sanctions legislation working closely with Business, Operations and ICRM Sanction team
  • Advise Business on Sanctions legal and program requirements with regards to client onboarding, transactions, and emerging risks. As well as significant issues
  • The candidate should assess opportunities to assist and provide value to clients without increasing risk, for example, the identification and execution of efforts leading to efficiencies with focus on ICG/GCB business in India Cluster


Education level and/or relevant experience(s)  

  • Required:
    • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Preferred:
    • M.B.A., or graduate-level degree a plus

Knowledge and skills (general and technical)  

  • Required:
    • 5+ Years of work experience in an international financial services firm, regulatory organization, or legal/consulting firm, or a combination thereof
    • Preferably expertise of Sanctions regulations, risks and typologies;
    • Must be a self-starter, flexible, innovative and adaptive
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively and with people at all levels of the organization
    • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to both work collaboratively and independently; ability to navigate a complex organization
    • Advanced analytical skills
    • Ability to both work independently and collaborate with team members
    • Excellent project management and organizational skills and capability to handle multiple projects at one time
