The Business Analyst (BA) serves a critical role as the bridge between our customers / users and the HSBC Operations, Services, and Technology (HOST) engineering team that designs, develops, tests and deploys the HSBC Staff Front End system.
The BA is responsible for ensuring that the underlying needs of the business are unambiguously articulated and that project stakeholders reach a common detailed understanding of “what” will be delivered (generally agnostic of the detailed “how” it will be delivered).
The BA is a key consultant (critical link) to our stakeholders and works closely with SMEs to elicit, capture, analyse, consolidate, and communicate business and functional requirements. The BA equally works closely with the development teams to formulate and recommend end-to-end software product solutions.
Liaise directly with business SMEs and stakeholders to ensure that the underlying business need is clearly understood and agreed. Ask the "what do you mean by that?" or "how does this fit in with what we were talking about earlier?" questions
Collaborate with business SMEs and stakeholders to produce detailed user requirements that concisely and unambiguously describe the details of the business problem to be resolved in a consistent manner.
Analyse product requirements from a broad, and end-to-end, perspective; identify impacts to new / existing business processes, other Group Solutions and other stakeholders / organizations (i.e. a cross-functional approach). This analysis includes coordinating specification of non-functional requirements (eg. Deployment model, platform, operations, and infrastructure) from the stakeholders, the regional service centres, the development, and deployment groups.
Work with the product manager, the solutions architect, and engineer leads to identify and fulfill functional documentation required to clearly and accurately express complex operations and end-to-end business requirements to the project. This includes mapping of business processes, and business use cases.
Solicit a common understanding / agreement of the requirements amongst SME stakeholders and manage requirements change via the project manager throughout the project lifecycle. Work with the project manager, solution architect, and business system analyst in the project team to ensure requirements are successfully conveyed to the development team
Liaise with SMEs and Quality Assurance team to ensure that business requirements and value are verifiable.
Support product managers as they take the Initial Request and Review (IRR), and progress through the Clear Choice phase and on through to the Terms Of Reference (TOR). This support is usually in the form of taking very high level requirements and getting enough details to allow engineering to better estimate effort.
Participate in post-implementation support of the pilot site deployment in order to understand the business experience and to feedback that experience to the product management team to improve the product.
To be an extension of product management ensuring that the will and spirit of the originally envisioned project scope is carried out and not deviated from, while, at the same time, being able to work independently
Interest in listening to SMEs to understand how business need drives requirements, not presuming to know the answers already
