An exciting opportunity has arisen for a receptionist/admin clerk to join the team in the Eye Casualty Department at Southampton General Hospital.
The successful candidate will have excellent customer service skills with a professional and pleasant manner. You will be a very valuable member of the team and assist in the provision of a high standard reception service welcoming patients and relatives to the department. A flexible approach to working routines, the ability to do a variety of tasks at one time and to work within a team and also alone is essential.
You will be responsible for registering of patients on to the hospital computer systems and ensuring all patients personal matters/records are dealt with in a confidential manner. You will be responsible for booking urgent appointments for patients who need to return to clinic, arrange hospital transport or interpreters if necessary, preparing hospital notes, general queries and liaise with clinical staff to ensure the smooth running of the department.
You will be required to attend and maintain regular training courses and to follow the policies and procedures set down in the department. Full training will be given on the Trust’s computer systems.
This is a very busy department but you will be supported daily by the Sister in charge and your team leader for any admin queries.

Getting to Work
Application can be made for parking on site at UHS or through one of the park and ride schemes. This will be based on specific criteria to determine eligibility for site parking as this can be very limited. UHS encourages staff to utilise other green methods of getting to work such as cycling or walking where possible. UHS is well connected through bus services to the city centre and other areas.
