An opportunity has arisen to join the growing team of over 30 dietitians in the York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, as a band 6 dietitian specialising in Renal dietetics. This part time (4 days per week) post is based at York Hospital in the cultural city of York.
The postholder will be a key member of the large and supportive renal MDT and will be part of a team of 4 band 6 renal dietitians led by a band 7 Advanced Clinical Specialist Dietitian. The renal dietetic team delivers a comprehensive service to patients in all stages of renal disease and transplantation. The renal service covers a wide area, including satellite services in Harrogate, Easingwold, Scarborough, Malton and Selby, and this post will be required to support services at several of these localities, alongside members of the renal MDT. There will be weekly MDT meetings, where a variety of patients with chronic kidney disease, acute kidney injury, on dialysis and pre and post transplantation will be managed. You will be involved in the dietetic management of renal patients on nutrition support by devising appropriate oral and enteral feeding regimens; making changes based on the assessment and interpretation of biochemistry and fluid balance. You will be trained in the use of anthropometry equipment and use of anthropometric measurement as part of the nutrition assessment of renal low clearance, haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients. You will be trained in the use of bioimpedance equipment for assessment of fluid balance in renal low clearance, haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients.
The department places a strong emphasis on clinical and peer support and supervision and has a well-established programme facilitating the training of dietetic students on A, B and C placements. We are also involved in delivering a variety of rolling training programmes for other healthcare professionals across the Trust relating to nutritional care. The successful candidate will be involved in these important aspects of learning and development.
