Salary: Remuneration package of up to $95,174 p.a. comprising salary range of $75,711 - $83,415 p.a. (AO4), recreational leave loading (17.5%), and employer contribution to superannuation (12.75%). (Permanent full-time position).

About North West Hospital and Health Service
The North West Hospital and Health Service covers an area of over 300,000 square kilometres and services the rural and remote communities within North Western Queensland and the Gulf of Carpentaria. The Health Service includes the City of Mount Isa and the towns and areas of Burketown, Camooweal, Cloncurry, Dajarra, Doomadgee, Julia Creek, Karumba, Normanton and Mornington Island.

About the Role
The responsiblities of the Clinical Coder role include but are not limited to:

  • Utilising current software programs, relevant clinical information systems and associated databases to assist in verification and allocation of codes into the Hospital Based Corporate Information System (HBCIS).
  • Identifying discrepancies between the clinical information systems such as (HBCIS) and patient records and feedback through appropriate channels.
  • Maintaining a well-developed knowledge of anatomy, clinical disease processes, pharmacology and diagnostic and procedural terminology together with coding-related systems and standards.

While not mandatory, the following qualifications and work experience are highly desirable:

  • Degree in Health Information Management (or equivalent)
  • Comprehensive Medical Terminology course or Challenge Examination in Medical Terminology
  • Intermediate ICD-10-AM, ACHA and ACS clinical coding course (or equivalent)
  • Advanced ICD-10-AM, ACHI and ACS clinical coding course (or equivalent)
  • Evidence of coding proficiency with a minimum of two years full-time coding experience within a large healthcare facility.
