The Senior Manager is responsible for the overall management, productivity and team development including people, budget and planning for the team. This role reports to Senior Management in the Legal Department and coordinates the team efforts with all areas of the firm including business, credit, treasury and operations.
The Senior Manager represents Citi’s derivative documentation efforts by participating in internal and external committees, is responsible for obtaining the approval of business heads with regard to issues relevant to the process and is the liaison for all internal/external documentation audits and regulatory inquiries, and has overall responsibility and oversight of Citi’s proprietary global master agreement and contracts systems. The Senior Manager coordinates and chairs meetings, develops and hosts training and informational sessions, escalates issues to the appropriate areas as necessary based on input from others, develops documentation policy in conjunction with Senior Legal Management.
Qualified candidates must have a BA/BS degree, a Masters or JD is strongly preferred.
6+ years experience required with at least 5 years of management of a team of legal professionals. Consideration will be given to those persons with previous experience in contract review and development and negotiation of terms and some demonstrated management experience.
The individual must have excellent written and oral communication skills as well as strong interpersonal and analytical skills. The ability to exercise mature judgment and adhere to policy guidelines is necessary as well as a self-motivated character that is capable of working autonomously while also motivating others and working in a collaborative, team environment. The successful candidate must be able to assess evolving issues in a timely, thoughtful and practical manner, determine a possible solution and collaborate with on-site product lawyers and senior managers within the firm for resolution as necessary. Problem solving is key to this position and examples of required work skills are:
Proven ability to evaluate complex and variable issues with substantial potential impact, and develop an approach/course of action weighing various alternatives and balancing potentially conflicting situations
Strong analytic skills and sound judgment
The incumbent will be managing the operations of a team of Legal Professionals and as such will be responsible for assisting with hiring, performance decisions, talent development and training strategy for the overall team.
Technical skills are required with demonstrated comprehensive proficiency in MSWord, Excel and PowerPoint software and the ability to learn and use the firm’s proprietary database and workflow systems.
