  A Day in the Life of an Assistant Vice President, Income Tax include the following:  

Reporting to AVP 2, Taxation, the individual is responsible for providing tax advice to the business lines including Retail Banking and Wealth Management and Global Banking and Markets. This position also supports AVP 2, Taxation in structuring corporate transactions and analyzing business impact of new tax legislation.

  Principle Accountabilities:
  • Assisting AVP 2, Taxation with providing income tax advice on major corporate transactions, including business re-organization, changes in capital structure and corporate structure.
  • Assisting AVP 2, Taxation with analyzing business impact of new tax legislations and judicial decisions regarding tax issues which affect the HSBC Group.
  • This position assists AVP 2, Taxation in making practical recommendations to the Bank with the aim to maximize tax efficiencies or minimize tax risks for the HSBC group.
  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand.
  • Ensure that all employees are aware of and effectively identify and manage applicable money laundering (ML), terrorist financing (TF), sanctions and reputational risks.
  • Complete other responsibilities, as assigned.
 

Qualifications

  Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications:
  • Relevant qualification such as a Chartered Accountant or a lawyer, who has completed the CICA In-depth tax course and has at least 10 years of relevant tax experience in a major accounting or law firm, corporate tax department or equivalent.
  • Excellent understanding of income tax legislation in the context of complex business operations. Income tax experience in the financial services industry is preferred.
  • Ability to understand and translate complex tax rules into easy to understand advice and solutions is essential.
  • Excellent communication and computer skills are essential.
  • Ability to communicate and arrive at solutions with senior management and a wide range of department staff is essential.
  • Understanding of Banking systems and accounting and reporting procedures are preferred.
