The Role

The Senior Policy and Planning Officer will contribute to policy and planning processes aimed at improving the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.  The role will implement, design and monitor Indigenous health projects to improve health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Queensland.  This role will undertake performance management, review and analysis of existing Indigenous health investment in regional Hospital and Health Services and non-government organisations, to ensure alignment with the Making Tracks towards closing the gap in health outcomes for Indigenous Queenslanders by 2033: Policy and Accountability Framework.  You will be developing policy documents, contributing to policy projects, developing and maintaining systems to support ongoing monitoring, and reporting against project funds managed by the Branch.  Additionally, you will support the allocation of project funds to both Hospital and Health Services and non-Government organisation. 

The successful candidate

To be considered for this role, you will have experience in the development of evidence-based health policy within a complex service delivery environment and demonstrate and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health issues.  You will demonstrate knowledge of the Council of Australian Government Indigenous Health reform agenda, and national and state policy frameworks related to improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.  You will have strong conceptual and analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and information to underpin strategy and policy development in health and other intersecting portfolios.

Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential including the ability to produce complex documents, reports, briefs, submissions and other government correspondence.  Ideally, you will demonstrate the ability to communicate and engage appropriately with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and organisations, including an understanding of historical and contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and subsequent health impacts.
