Responsibilities/Duties:

To provide medical services in primary care (clinic), emergency department coverage, acute care including Obstetrics and C-section deliveries and extended care services.

Will also have current rural and emergency experience.

Must be a team player.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Reside in and have as his/her primary residence, St. Paul
  • Establish and maintain full time community based practice within the community
  • Provision of extended hour (including evenings & weekends) of comprehensive care within the base community
  • Provide hospital call support as per call schedules, including full time participation in the Emergency Department and other call schedules as required
  • Contribute to and participate in teaching programs and activities
  • Interest in Leadership
  • Contribute to and participate in other administrative responsibilities as assigned

The successful candidate is recruited for the community of St. Paul. Once chosen, the successful candidate may choose to operate their business by joining an existing practice or opening their own practice. This is the candidate's independent business decision and will not be managed through the recruitment process.

St. Paul is strategically located in the centre of the northeast region of Alberta, and as a result maintains its status as a major trading centre for the surrounding area. An excellent road system and 3, 500 foot paved airstrip provides easy access to and from the area.

Population of St. Paul including catchment is 16, 331 and is situated 200km northeast of Edmonton on Highway 28. St. Paul offers education in both public and separate division as well as a Francophone option. Public schools in St. Paul include St. Paul Elementary School [K-5], Racette Junior High School [6-9], and St. Paul Regional School [10-12]. Ecole Du Sommet provides French language education for Grades K to 12, through the East Central Francophone Education Regional Division. Glen Avon Protestant School provides education for Grades K to 9, and St. Paul Regional School provides education for Grades 10 to 12. Post-secondary programs and courses are available through the Portage College and Blue Quills First Nations College.

Qualifications:

Qualifications & Experience

  • Must have current experience in Obstetrics including C-Sections
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
  • Emergency Room Experience (Required)
  • Must have current rural experience

Candidate must have independent Emergency Room & Acute Care Hospital Experience in Rural setting within the past 1-2 years

Preference will be given to applicants who do not require or have completed the CPSA Preliminary Clinical Assessment

Compensation:

Compensation Type: Fee-for-Service through Alberta Health & Wellness

On Call Stipend: GP on Call: Yes Physicians are remunerated for being on call in the Emergency Department. The rate is $23.84 an hour and is paid for a total of 14 hours on weekdays from 5pm to 7am and 24 hours a day on weekends and statutory holidays. Frequency of call shifts vary by community.

Alberta Medical Association (AMA) Incentives: www.albertadoctors.org A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside this community of $0 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 0% for insured services provided in this community. Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.

Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.

Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,656 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.

Parental Leave Program - provides $1,000 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.

Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
