BTA Product Manager, Frankfurt am Main (m/f/d)
Within Global Marketing & Product Management, Central Bill and B2B is the fastest growing segment of the business. The Product Management team needs to be entrepreneurial, highly dynamic, and focused on driving incremental results in order to capture the significant marketplace opportunity. The combination of an expanded global footprint and exciting product evolution will make the next 24-36 months critical to the overall direction of the business.
The BTA Product Manager will play a key role in supporting the existing product whilst developing a roadmap for the BTA business specifically in Germany. Germany is one of the fastest growing BTA markets globally; with strong growth forecasted, it is vital the Product Management team have a member of the team locally in the market to ensure the needs of the market are managed and met whilst looking to the future to grow the product functionality. As such, the role will be office based from the Frankfurt office.
Launched around 15 years ago in Germany, BTA in its current product construct has gone through many changes during this time. In 2012, I-BTA was launched in Germany to complete head to head with a key competitor. Like BTA, I-BTA not only provides a statement to the client detailing charges supplemented with travel/reference data but also provides a legal invoice which can be used for tax reclaim purposes by the client (all domestic travel in Germany is subject to VAT which is reclaimable).
The BTA Manager will support both BTA and I-BTA and will work closely with end customers, sales, account development, product development, technology, marketing, implementation, World Service and other teams to develop a clear understanding of the customer needs, market demands and competition. In addition, they will partner with the local teams to clearly develop and implement the strategy.
We are looking for a person who can work pragmatically within real-world constraints and solve business and process challenges within a cross-functional, collaborative work environment. The position will report to the Director – Product Management BTA.
The key accountabilities to be addressed include:
Product functional expert – first point of contact for Sales/AD/Partnerships team for any BTA or I-BTA expert and join client calls/meetings as subject matter expert.
Issue Management and Resolution – coordination point for any product related risks or issues identified by customers and partners that require input from Product team. To include driving issue diagnosis and facilitation of resolution with other required internal teams. Act as central point of contact for ‘business as usual’ problem management where Product team input or oversight is required.
Communication coordination – drive the internal communication between Product team and Sales/AD/Partnerships team (currently having to manage multiple updates centrally, regular field calls with Sales, regular issues calls with AD’s, regular progress calls with Implementation team).
Training – adapt and deliver product training where it is required in local language. Immediate need is to educate new IMM recruits but there is an ongoing need to improve understanding of the product in the market as well as ensure all future amendments/fixes/enhancements are rolled out and understood.
Partner On-boarding coordination – for in-flight partner Projects (i.e. new BTA/I-BTA suppliers) , act as central point of contact liaising between Sales, Account Management, Product/project team, servicing, Business Excellence and Partnerships to ensure complete execution (i.e. governance to ensure all necessary activities completed and tested prior to implementation).
Supplier Agreements – Ensure and manage/maintain all required supplier agreements are in place to enable AXP to show necessary VAT information on invoices; include identification of all required International partners, coordination of sign up activity, management of updates (working with Business Excellence Team and Servicing as appropriate).
Implementation Support – provide necessary Product expertise to support Implementation team when executing client testing. Join required implementation planning calls as well as support any issue resolution where appropriate.
Documentation – work with central product team and local marketing team to ensure all internal and external product documentation is complete and up to date.

Minimum 6-8 years experience in travel industry
Superior thought leadership and analytical abilities to identify business opportunities, define global strategies and solve business challenges
Proven ability to define a set of requirements that pinpoint business challenges and identify changes required to address them
Experience managing concurrent work streams. Strong project management and results driven mindset
Exceptional interpersonal, relationship, and influence management skills that allow for close partnerships with many different constituents, inside and outside of Amex and across all levels
Experience in a Travel Management Company a plus
Proven track record of solving complex business challenges; root cause analysis, solution development and implementation, communications
Experience of leading a cross functional team to execute against technology investments
Experience of qualifying value propositions and building cost benefit analyses
Product management experience; defining and executing product strategies
Prior experience with Commercial Card or B2B payment products, BTA knowledge would be beneficial
Demonstrable external supplier/partner relationship management
Demonstrate strong sense of self-awareness, caring and respect for others
Excellent oral and written communications skills and proven ability to communicate at senior level; in both German and English
