This would be a fantastic opportunity for a HCPC registered Clinical scientist to develop their experience and expertise in all areas of Radiotherapy. Pre-registration physicists on recognised training routes would be considered for appointment.
You will join the friendly team of Scientists, dosimetrists and engineers in the Radiotherapy physics group and the post holder will work in all areas of radiotherapy physics to both support and develop the service.
Southampton is going through an exciting period of change with linacs undergoing replacement so that by 2020 we will have 6 new Elekta Versa HD linacs operational supported by pinnacle planning and mosaiq oncology management system. Two new linacs including exactrac imaging system are already installed and are supporting expansion of our stereotactic services. Commissioning on the 4th new machine will commence in September 2019. We have an active scientific computing group supporting innovative solutions to progress efficient automated workflow.
We are the only centre in the UK providing intra operative radiotherapy with an electron accelerator and also provide physics services to breast intra operative radiotherapy in Winchester using the kV intrabeam system.
Work would include complex treatment planning, including stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR), QA and commissioning of linear accelerators and a wide range of brachytherapy techniques. Dedicated time for research and development work will be given to support the many ongoing projects in the department.
Service development and innovation are at the core of our work and staff are encouraged to attend and present their work at national and international meetings. The department has a diverse, friendly workforce which actively engages in CPD such as monthly journal club and departmental seminars to share learning.
The post holder will also contribute to teaching and training.
Radiotherapy physics service will be delivered across sites at Southampton General Hospital and Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital. Southampton is equipped with 6 linacs and 2 dedicated planning CTs and Basingstoke is equipped with a further linac and planning CT.
