Consultant Paediatrician with a special interest in Paediatric Oncology Shared Care

Applications are invited for this exciting General Paediatric Consultant post with a special interest in Paediatric Oncology shared care. The post offers an excellent opportunity to provide leadership and care to children with Oncology and Haematology diseases and, through partnership working with a new consultant colleague, some Haemoglobinopathy and Sickle Cell Disease patients. It is expected that these two postholders will provide some cross cover, which will not only ensure a robust service delivery model, but will enable the successful applicants to gain further experience in the respective areas.

The Trust is a designated POSCU level 1 centre providing oncology shared care to the child population of Barking & Dagenham, Havering, Redbridge and Brentwood. We are aspiring to be a level 2 POSCU and work is on-going to achieve that. Day case treatments such as blood and platelet transfusion, bolus chemotherapy and antibiotic/antiviral/antifungal treatment are provided in the Tropical Bay ward during the weekdays. The post holder will have the opportunity to share the responsibility with the current potholder for all inpatient care of paediatric oncology /haematology patients. The primary treatment centres (PTC) are usually Great Ormond Street Hospital for 0-12 year olds or University College London Hospital, (UCLH), for young people 13 and over. UCLH is the PTC for all children with bone tumours. The Royal London Hospital is the PTC for retinoblastoma.

In addition the post holder will gain significant general acute paediatric experience through ward duties and exposure to one of London’s largest Emergency departments. The post holder will be expected to cover a 3 tier rota based on a combination of days and non-resident on-calls on a 1:7 basis. Applicants must have full registration with the General Medical Council (or eligible if currently working overseas) and significant levels of experience working within acute Paediatrics.

At BHRUT our first priority is the quality of care our patients receive. We are one of the largest Associate Teaching Hospitals in the country and employ circa 6,000 staff providing acute care for over 750,000 people across 2 main sites – Queen’s and King George Hospitals. The Trust is in an excellent location, well situated in the South East, with good transport links and is close to Central London and the Olympic Park. The Trust also has on-site nursery facilities and is located near good schools.

While this is a full time post, applications will be considered from those wishing to work less than full time.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. The UK Visas and Immigration department requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.

From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement.
