Consultant Paediatrician with an interest in Haematology & Oncology
Applications are invited for this exciting General Paediatric Consultant post with a special interest in Haemoglobinopathy and Sickle Cell Disease. The post offers an excellent opportunity to provide leadership and care to children with Haemoglobinopathy problems and, through partnership working with a new consultant colleague, some shared care Haematology and Oncology patients. It is expected that these two postholders will provide some cross cover, which will not only ensure a robust service delivery model, but will enable the successful applicants to gain further experience in the respective areas.
The Paediatric Haematology service has close links with adult Haematology. The Trust looks after circa 400 children with Haemoglobinopathy. There has been a rapidly expanding population of Haemoglobinopathy patients with 10% rise in the number of children and young people since 2011.
In addition the post holder will gain significant general acute paediatric experience through ward duties and exposure to one of London’s largest Emergency departments. The post holder will be expected to cover a 3 tier rota based on a combination of days and non-resident on-calls on a 1:7 basis. Applicants must have full registration with the General Medical Council (or eligible if currently working overseas) and significant levels of experience working within acute Paediatrics.
At BHRUT our first priority is the quality of care our patients receive. We are one of the largest Associate Teaching Hospitals in the country and employ circa 6,000 staff providing acute care for over 750,000 people across 2 main sites – Queen’s and King George Hospitals. The Trust is in an excellent location, well situated in the South East, with good transport links and is close to Central London and the Olympic Park. The Trust also has on-site nursery facilities and is located near good schools.
While this is a full time post, applications will be considered from those wishing to work less than full time.
Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. The UK Visas and Immigration department requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.
From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement.
