Consultant in neuro-anaesthesia

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust - More jobs by this advertiser

Online applications are invited to apply for a Consultant in Neuro Anaesthetics. This post is primarily to support the increasing Neuro-Surgical caseload and the expanding Interventional Neuro-Radiology (INR) service at UHS. A second interventional Neuro-radiology suite has recently been opened to facilitate the expansion of Neuro-radiology work at UHS, primarily Mechanical Thrombectomy.  It is also anticipated that this suite will allow additional elective functional neuro-surgery to be undertaken.

The current Neuro-surgical service treats adults and children. The allocation of Anaesthetists to lists is managed flexibly to ensure that paediatric Neuro-anaesthetists are allocated to lists which include children. Applicants with paediatric experience are welcomed, but this is not an essential requirement.

This is a large department which offers flexibility in job planning. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to request lists in other sub-specialties according to the needs of the department and by mutual agreement with the Care Group Clinical Lead.

The post also supports the delivery of elective  weekend work. It will enhance robust year round Consultant delivery of existing anaesthetic services.

Please note that GMC registration (with a licence to practice) and right to work in the UK are essential for this role.  Successful applicants will already have GMC registration or will be able to demonstrate they are eligible.  Applicants requiring Tier 2 sponsorship should ensure they meet the Home Office application criteria prior to submitting an application.

One of these is a second neuro angiography suite to facilitate the development of a Mechanical Thrombectomy Service. The others are a new paediatric theatre, and an endoscopy suite.

UHS is currently working on a large extension of its theatre provision with a multi-storey extension planned to provide eight new operating theatres including one serviced by an MRI scanner. This complex is on track for opening in 2020.
