About the opportunity
The Registered Midwife is an integral part of the multidisciplinary maternity team providing woman centred care that is focused on the woman's individual needs, expectations and aspirations to achieve optimal birthing outcomes for women and their babies in antenatal and postnatal stages.


Coonabarabran is a gateway to the Warrumbungle's National Park and home to Siding Spring Observatory making it the Astronomy capital of Australia. The park offers a recreational haven for those keen to bush walk, hike, mountain climb and sight see across the multiple trails. The park offers a camping getaway to the outdoor adventurer.

Coonabarabran is a country town in the central west region of New South Wales, Australia with a population of approximately 4000 people. It services the surrounding agricultural region that includes grazing for sheep and beef cattle and cereal cropping.


Sitting on the Oxley highway the town is located at the source of the Castlereagh River, upstream from Gilgandra, Mendooran, Gulargambone and Coonamble. It is 495 km north-west of Sydney (about six hours' driving time), and is located approximately halfway on the inland route from Melbourne to Brisbane. It is 145km away from its closest regional town, Dubbo, 190km away from Tamworth and 360km from Newcastle.


The town offers a comprehensive shopping centre, 33 metre swimming pool, a gym as well as other amenities. The friendly community warmly welcomes new faces.

What you'll be doing

Provide preventative, early detection and early referral for intervention/ treatment care and services to children (0-5 years) and their parents/carers including the offer of a home visit following the birth of every child within the Western New South Wales Local Health District (WNSWLHD).

  1. Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) and a current unrestricted licence to drive in NSW with the ability to drive for work purposes.
  2. Demonstrated ability to practice in accordance with the Registered Midwife National Competency Standards, Code of Ethics for Midwives, and Code of Professional Conduct for Midwives (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia).
  3. Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology, written and verbal means; and sound interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate with a diverse range of people.
  4. An understanding of woman centred care and demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of the multi-disciplinary health care team.
  5. Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise, delegate, and negotiate with others to deliver quality midwifery care
  6. Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritise and organise workload and deliver care with integrity and accountability.
  7. Understanding of Aboriginal culture and Aboriginal women's issues and ability to apply knowledge of current issues relating to Aboriginal pregnancy, childbirth, mortality and morbidity.
