An exciting opportunity exists to join the Renal Home Training Unit as a Registered Nurse at Wollongong Hospital.

What you'll be doing

The Renal Home Training Unit Registered Nurse is responsible for:
* the education and training of patients (and/or carers) choosing to dialyse independently at home. 
* the ongoing review and follow up of the patient across the continuum of their home dialysis journey. This includes regular assessment of patient, their dialysis adequacy, patient’s ability to manage the therapy at home, management and/or treatment of complications and adverse events. 
* liaising with the Multidisciplinary team as required and communicate effectively with physicians. 
* required to attend home visits for both peritoneal and haemodialysis patients, dialysing or planning to dialyse at home.

Once proficient in both forms of dialysis in the Home Training setting, the RN will be required to be on the on-call roster which covers weekends and after hours in the evening, including phone calls and call outs to ED.

Wollongong Hospital is the Illawarra and Shoalhaven’s major referral and teaching hospital and has bed base of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.

  1. Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) and unrestricted NSW Driving Licence Class C.
  2. Recent experience in haemodialysis and/or peritoneal dialysis.
  3. Demonstrated application of adult learning principles in the context of the chronically ill patient.
  4. Demonstrated understanding of evidence based practice and critical thinking.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to person centred care and NSW Health Core Values.
  6. Demonstrated high level verbal and written communication skills.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  8. Computer literacy and understanding of relevant health related information systems.
