LOCUM CONSULTANT IN CRITICAL CARE

QUEEN’S HOSPITAL, ROMFORD

BHRUT would like to invite applications for a full time Locum Intensive Care Medicine Consultant. This is a whole time post of 10 PA’s which consist of, 8.0 direct clinical care programmed activities (PA) in Critical Care, and 2.0 supporting PA’s (CPD, Research or Audit).

You will be joining a dynamic and forward-thinking team of 27 ITU consultants working across two hospital sites (Queens and King George’s). On the Queens site we have 44 Critical Care beds which includes a dedicated 12 bed Neuro Critical Care. On the King George’s site we have a further 8 critical care beds. There are 4 critical care consultants on site daily from 8am to 6pm on the Queens site and 1 at the KGH site. A further “late” consultant is on site at Queens from 2pm to 11pm leading the Outreach team.

The Critical Care Unit supports a large variety of surgical specialities including Upper GI, Vascular, Neurosurgery, Complex Orthopaedic, Gynaecological cancer and High-risk obstetrics (8000 deliveries per year). Medical specialities supported include Cardiac (there is a catheter lab on the KGH site), Renal, Respiratory, Neurology, Oncology and Renal. We have recently also been designated as one of London’s 5 thrombectomy centres.

We are extremely proud that we recently secured a place on the ground-breaking Virginia Mason Institute Programme to transform the care we provide for patients. We are one of only five Trusts in the country selected to take part and our patients will greatly benefit from the systems that have led to Virginia Mason receiving awards for excellent and safe care.

The successful candidate must have MB ChB, MBBS or equivalent and hold full GMC registration, be a holder of Certificate of completion of training (CCT) or within six months of their CCT or equivalent at interview. And hold a Post-graduate qualification in Intensive Care Medicine (FFICM, EDIC or equivalent). This requirement is not applicable for established consultants in Critical Care applying to this post).

In addition, our Trust is in an excellent location, close to Central London and well situated in the South East of the UK. Romford station is on Crossrail opening in 2020.
